What populations do you work with? I treat adolescents, adults, and seniors in either individual, couple’s, or family therapy.
How does psychotherapy work? People seek psychotherapy for many different reasons: a crisis, a loss, a major life change, to sort things out to have a happier life, or to improve relationships.
How long does it take? I provide both short and long-term psychotherapy tailored to fit your specific needs. A person may come to therapy once, twice, or may choose to continue until goals for overall quality of life improvement have been met.
Will what I share be kept private? All of your conversations with me are completely confidential (except where mandated otherwise by law, as in the case of child abuse and/or elder abuse or imminent danger to yourself or others).
What is a Psychologist? A Psychologist is a licensed professional who has completed a graduate program in Psychology that includes clinical training and internships, and who provides care for individuals with mental and emotional problems. Psychologists typically have a doctorate degree (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) and have undergone postdoctoral training; however, they are not physicians and cannot prescribe medication. Psychologists are trained in a variety of psychotherapeutic techniques rather than in one particular school or theory.
What agency licenses Psychologists in California? The practice of both licensed and unlicensed persons in the field of psychotherapy is regulated by the California Board of Psychology.
How many sessions will I need? The number of sessions depends on several factors, including but not limited to the goals for therapy, the severity of the issues encountered, and of course, the individual's willingness to actively participate.
What if I have to cancel a session? There is no charge for any session cancelled 24 or more hours prior to the scheduled time. However, sessions cancelled with less than 24 hours notice will be charged my regular fee.
Will my insurance company pay for psychotherapy? Many insurance plans reimburse for some portion of psychotherapy. Please direct questions about reimbursement amounts and timeliness to your insurance company. Although I am not contracted (in network, preferred provider) with all insurers, I am currently a Tricare, Aetna, Blue Shield, and Cigna provider. PPO and POS insurance plans that offer out-of-network privileges often provide reimbursement for psychotherapy services by providers not in their network. Please check with your insurance company to verify specific coverage under your plan. I will bill your insurance company for you or provide a receipt for services rendered at the end of each month that may be used to submit for reimbursements upon request.
